Croatian Defence Academy launches "Strategos" journal

The first issue of the military research journal “Strategos“ was launched in the Croatian Defence Academy "Dr. Franjo Tuđman", which is also the publisher,  on 15 March 2017.

The ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic of Croatia as Supreme Commander of the Croatian Armed Forces, Kolinda Grabar Kitarović, the Envoy of the Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, State Secretary for Defence Tomislav Ivić,the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Mirko Šundov, the Commander of the Croatian Defence Academy Lieutenant General Slavko Barić, ther Rector of the University of Zagreb Damir Boras, the members of the Diplomatic Corps to the Republic of Croatia and other officials and representatives of the academic community.
Speaking of the importance of the new military research journal and of the moment of its appearance the President of the Republic said it was a new dimension of the  activity of the Croatian Defence Academy and the continued integration into the home and international research community.
These characteristics, and the openness to numerous and often differing deliberations and  approaches and the broad research interest constitute the special value of the journal. The comprehensive approach is necessary to respond to challenges  inherent in today's dynamic and unpredictable environment. It is our goal in the development of the homeland security system in the Republic of Croatia, and I am working closely on it with the Government of the Republic of Croatia“, said President. 
"The new journal testifies at a symbolic level to the development  of the Croatian Defence Academy into a respectable higher education institution.  I believe that “Strategos“ will become a relevant platform for the promotion of excellence, new ideas and knowledge. The journal will promote science and will adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to the topics related to the defence and security system“ stressed the Envoy of the Deputy Prime Minister and State Secretary for Defence Tomislav Ivić.
The Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Mirko Šundov addressed the importance of the journal too. “The launching of “Strategos“ reaffirms the academic relevance of the Croatian Defence Academy. I believe the journal will we shall leave an authentic mark of our time and activities“, said the Chief of the General Staff.

The Commander of the Croatian Defence Academy, Lt. Gen. Slavko Barić underlined the timing of the  launching of the journa:“ It is necessary for the future development of the Croatian Defence Academy.  The development of the military education in the Republic of Croatia implies targeted activities focussed on improved  education of future members of the Croatian Armed Forces and on the research and projects in the domains of security and defence“, said Lt.Gen. Barić.
Presenting the first issue of the journal, the editor-in-chief of the journal, Colonel Jugoslav Jozić said the journal was motivated by the need for a framework to enable systematic survey and analysis of a broad spectrum of subjects in the science of the military, defence , security and intelligence.
Matthew Rhodes, a representative of “George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies“ and a member of the International Advisory Committee of the journal expressed satisfaction over the launching of the journal and underlined  ts importance of its contribution to military education and security in an unstable global environment.
hStrategos will be published semestrally and will contain original resarch and expert papers covering a wide range of military, defence and security-related interdisciplinary research. One of the main goals is to entice a scientific debate on the military, defence and security  subject. The publisher is the Croatian Defence Academy and the editor-in-chief is Colonel  Jugoslav Jozić.
