COM MARCOM visits Croatian Navy and Split

Vice Admiral Clive Johnstone, Commander of the Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM), headquartered in Northwood (UK), on 26 and 27 September 2017 visited the Croatian Navy and Split.

During the visit the Navx staff presented the structure of the Croatian Navy, its mission, capabilities and tasks, the international co-operation as well as the main modernisation projects. The COM MARCOM and the Cormmander of the Croatian Navy reviewed the commitments and tasks as  part of NATO maritime forces in the activities aimed at achieving and maintaining maritime security, primarily in the Adriatic and the Mediterranean.

"We discussed the modalities to upgrade the exercises at sea to ensure interoperability in future operations“, said Rear admiral Predrag Stipanović, who remined of NATO vessels port visits in Croatia. 
"Vice Admiral Johnstone accepted our invitation to visit the Croatian Navy to learn about its capabilities and capacities“, stated Rear admiral

Stipanović; who also underlined the experiences  from the Operation "Triton" and the sea lift as valuable for the future engagements.
The Commander of MARCOM underlined the importance of the Croatian Navy in ensuring  steady environment in the Adriatic and its present and potential contribution to collective defence.

"The Croatian Navy has achieved a notable progress with regard to active contribution to Allied operations in the Mediterranean, establishing itself as a credible and competent partner“, stated VAdm Johnstone.

On the second day of the visit the Commander of MARCOM visited the Missile Maintenance Company of the Croatian Navy, stationed in the Barracks "Sv. Juraj" at Žrnovnica near Split, the RTOP-41 "Vukovar" missile boat , the SB-73 "Faust Vrančić" salvage ship and the Operations Centre of the Croatian Navy.  He also visited the towns of Split and Trogir.

The Maritime Command (MARCOM) is the central command of all NATO maritime forces and the MARCOM Commander is the primary maritime advisor to the Alliance. It is subordinated directly to NATO Allied Command Operations (ACO), Mons (BE), along with the land command (LANDCOM) and air command (AIRCOM).
