Multinational EX Immediate Response 19 concludes

The international military exercise "Immediate Response 19" – the main training event in Croatia, marking the 10th anniversary of its membership in NATO -concluded in the Training Range "Eugen Kvaternik" near Slunj on 5 June 2019.

The closing ceremony was attended by the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces General Mirko Šundov,by the Commander of the Croatian Army Major General Siniša Jurković, by the Deputy Commander of the Croatian Army and the Deputy Exercise Director in Croatia Brigadier General Boris Šerić, by the Commander of the Guards Motorised Brigade Brigadier General Tihomir Kundid and the Head of the EXCON Colonel Ivica Matanović.

The main objective of tue Exercise, co-organised and conducted by Croatia, Slovenia and Hungary and the USAREUR was to practice military mobility (mobility of multinational forces), and it engaged over 1,600 members of the armed forces of Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Montenegro, Kosovo, the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Lithuania, Poland, North Macedonia, Italy and Germany.

 


The Exercise Director was Lieutenant General Christopher Cavoli – the Commanding General of USAREUR.
The Croatian Armed Forces were assigned with the command of the Multinational Battalion, namely the Battalion Commander post and the top staff posts.

The Exercise involved an important contribution to combat stregth, through the enhanced capabilities of the participating countries and rapid deployment to the key terrain.
 
Immediate Response saw the first transport of the participating forces embarked in another allied country (Durres, Albania) with the vessels of the Croatian Navy and was an opportunity to display Croatia's commitment to contribute to the regional security through the U.S. -Adriatic Charter initiative.

 


The Chief of the General Staff of tue Croatian Armed Forces General Mirko Šundov said theUS. Adriatic Charter was the most important and successful U.S. initiative, which achieved important objectives and results with the accession of the member countries to NATO.
The Commander of the Croatian Army Major General Siniša Jurković said that Immediate Response had been conducted since 2011, but the 2019 event had many more allies and partners, which proved we were on the right track towards enhancing interoperability, partnership and trust building in the region and in Europe".

The Commander of the Multinational Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Samir Mršić concluded:
"We have jointly fulfilled the objective and attained the desired level of interoperability. We worked hard and selflessly, defying the weatrher conditions".
