DVD "SABER GUARDIAN 17"

The Distinguished Visitor Day of the multinational exercise "Saber Guardian 2017", with the participation of the members of the Croatian Armed Forces, was held on 15 July 2017 at the Training Range "Cincu" in Romania,where the major Croatian component is based, comprising the staff personnel,the mechanised infantry company and tank battalion as the main training group and the task force logistic platoon and the evaluator team as a secondary training group. 

The DVD ceremony was attended by the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, the Commander of the USAREUR, Lieutenant General Frederick Benjamin Hodges and the Commander of the Romanian Army, Major General Marius Harabagiu and senior military and civilian visitors from more than 20 allied and partner  countries taking part in the cluster of smaller exercises within the joint international exercise "Saber Guardian 2017".

The Croatian visitors were the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Drago Matanović, the Commander of the Croatian Army, Lieutenant General  Mate Ostović, the Commander of the Guards Mechanised Brigade of the Croatian Army Brigadier General Tihomir Kundid, the Commander of the "Tigrovi" Battalion of the Guards Mechanised Brigade GMBR Major  Mario Mlinarić and the Executive Officer in the Office of the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Siniša Ciglenečki.

Addressing the members of the Croatian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Matanović stressed it was the largest international military exercise engaging the victorious Croatian military since the Homeland War.  "The Croatian soldiers demonstrated their professionalism, responsibility and readiness, and the commanding staff is proud to lead the military under the Croatian flag, as did our fellow combatants in the Homeland War“.

Lt. Gen. Matanović also said that the Exercise affirmed the cohesion of the teams and itrengthened fellowship both within teams and within our troops as well as with our partner forces with whom we will participate in joint missions. The experience is particularly important for the 1st Mechanised Infantry Company of the  of the Guards Mechanised Brigade of the Croatian Armed Forces prior to its deployment in Lithuania within NATO's enhanced Forward Presence. The members of the Battalion demonstrated a high level of trainedness and preparedness following a long and demanding training.

Major General Ostović extended congratulations to the members of the Croatian Army and the allocated components for duly presenting their service and the Croatian Armed Forces, and praised their effort and exemplary display of the interoperability in an international environment.

The Commander of the Romanian Army, Major General Harabagiu  presented two members of the Croatian Armed Forces - Major Miroslav Katuša, the Commander of the Croatian contingent based at the Training Range “Cincu“ and Captain Marko Krpan, the Commander of the 1st Mechanised Company – the Medal of the Romanian Army.

The international exercise “Saber Guardian 17" is an exercise of the USAREUR in the Black Sea Region taking place in Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria from 25 June – 25 July  2017 and engaging more than 25,000 members of the U.S. Army in Europe and of 22 allies and partners, among whom 258 members of the Croatian Armed Forces.

The purpose of the Exercise is to promote stability and security in the Black Sea Region, the strengthening  of partner capabilities, the enhancing of trust and improvement of interoperability between the armed forces of the allied and partner countries.
