The Commemoration Ceremony was attended by the residents and the defenders of \u0160kabrnja, the delegations of the Croatian Parliament, headed by Deputy Speaker Dragica Zgrebec, of the Croatian Government,headed by Minister of Public Administration Arsen Bauk,\u00a0 of the Croatian Armed Forces, the Ministry of the Interior, of the Croatian General’s Corps,\u00a0 the representatives of the associations of the defenders, of disabled veterans and of victims from the Homeland War and representatives of the local authorities in Croatia, marching in a column through the village, observing a minute of silence and paying respects to the victims of the crime.
The commemoration programme was opened by the Union of associations of civilian victims from the Homeland War laying wreaths on behalf of all delegations the Mass Grave Memorial Site of \u0160kabrnja,\u00a0 followed by the mass served in the parish church of the Assumption of Our Lady by bishop of Lika-Senj County,\u00a0 Mons Mile Bogovi\u0107, who reminded of the terrors of war suffered on the day by the towns of Vukovar and Slunj and the village of \u0160kabrnja and warned againts revenge and hatred.\u00a0\u00a0
The memorial column marched to the Saint Luke’s Cemetery where the delegations laid wreaths at the Memorial Monument to the Fallen in the Homeland War, among whom the delegation of the Croatian Armed Forces, headed by the Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Dragutin Repinc, and the delegation of the General Police Directorate.
The village had been previously visited by the President of the Republic, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovi\u0107, who had met with the fallen defenders’ families, and paid respects at the Mass Grave Memorial Site and at Central Cross at the Saint Luke Cemetery.
