{"id":119969,"date":"2019-12-11T15:49:12","date_gmt":"2019-12-11T14:49:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.morh.hr\/?p=119969"},"modified":"2020-12-10T10:44:18","modified_gmt":"2020-12-10T09:44:18","slug":"roundtable-dr-franjo-tudman-supreme-commander-and-statesman-in-honour-of-1st-croatian-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.morh.hr\/en\/roundtable-dr-franjo-tudman-supreme-commander-and-statesman-in-honour-of-1st-croatian-president\/","title":{"rendered":"Roundtable &#8220;Dr Franjo Tu\u0111man \u2013 Supreme Commander and Statesman&#8221;- in honour of 1st Croatian President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the passing away of the first President of the Republic of Croatia dr Franjo Tu\u0111man a Roundtable titled &#8220;Dr Franjo Tu\u0111man \u2013 Supreme Commander and Statesman&#8221; was organised in the Croatian Defence Academy (named after him) on 10 December 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The participants of the Roundtable were the Tu\u0111man family members and associates , the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Andrej Plenkovi\u0107, by the Envoy of the President of the Republic Zrinko Petener, by the Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Damir Krsti\u010devi\u0107, by the Minister of Homeland War Veterans Tomo Medved, by the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces General Mirko \u0160undov, by the Military Ordinary Mons. Jure Bogdan, by the wartime commanders of the units of the Croatian Army, senior state officials, Lieutenant General (Ret.) It was a crucial decade for the Croatian people. It is particularly important to note that President Tu\u0111man bequethed to all of us the sense of belonging and dedication to the idea of the Croatian state; he was the biggest Croatian sovereign \u2013 a country ignorant of pluralism, independence and market economy eventually gained international recognition as a free country with territorial integrity, population and government&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h3>Prime Minister: Statehood Day to be marked on 30 May again<\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;We have simbolically reversed the marking of the Statehood Day to 30 May, not because other dates are not important but primarily as 30 May 1990 opened a 2 \u2013year process of making strategic and crucial institutional decisions were made to establish a framework and legal foundations of the Croatian state&#8221; said the Prime Minister.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Na HVU-u odr\u017ean okrugli stol \u201cDr. Franjo Tu\u0111man \u2013 vrhovni zapovjednik i dr\u017eavnik\u201d\" width=\"868\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fDVWa2dyydU?wmode=transparent&amp;rel=0&amp;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Minister Krsti\u010devi\u0107: President Tu\u0111man and Croatian defenders have the most merit for the independence of Croatia<\/h3>\n<p>Minister Krsti\u010devi\u0107 in his address emphasised that the Roundtable was held in the Croatian Defence Academy that had been named after him, and was envisaged to grow into a University of Defence and Security &#8220;Dr. Franjo Tu\u0111man&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This Roundtable is dedicated to President Tu\u0111man, who bore the greatest merit, alongside the Croatian defenders,for the freedom and independence of Croatia and for the establishment of the Croatian military, which deeply respects its history and builds its future upon the values of the Homeland War.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister said President Tu\u0111man was undoubtedly one of the biggest figures of the Croatian and world history, led by a vision for the future of Croatia. His vision came true at the historic line-up of the Croatian National Guard in the FC Zagreb Stadium in Zagreb on 28 May 1991, and later in the Knin Fortress on 5 August 1995, when he stated: &#8220;The Croatian flag hoisted here concludes the struggle for free and independent Croatian state&#8221;. The Croatian Armed Forces respect their history, the first Croatian President and leader. The Croatian Armed Forces are among the main guards of the Croatian identity, tradition and all the values underpinning the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Croatia. I am certain that President Tu\u0111man would approve of the development of the victorious Croatian Armed Forces&#8221;, concluded the Minister&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>A memorial mass for Dr. Franjo Tu\u0111man was recited in the Zagreb Cathedral on 10 December by the Archbishop of Zagreb, Mons.
