The DVD ceremony was attended by the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, the Commander of the USAREUR, Lieutenant General Frederick Benjamin Hodges and the Commander of the Romanian Army, Major General Marius Harabagiu and senior military and civilian visitors from more than 20 allied and partner\u00a0 countries taking part in the cluster of smaller exercises within the joint international exercise “Saber Guardian 2017”.<\/p>\n
The Croatian visitors were the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Drago Matanovi\u0107, the Commander of the Croatian Army, Lieutenant General\u00a0 Mate Ostovi\u0107, the Commander of the Guards Mechanised Brigade of the Croatian Army Brigadier General Tihomir Kundid, the Commander of the “Tigrovi” Battalion of the Guards Mechanised Brigade GMBR Major\u00a0 Mario Mlinari\u0107 and the Executive Officer in the Office of the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Sini\u0161a Ciglene\u010dki.<\/p>\n
Addressing the members of the Croatian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Matanovi\u0107 stressed it was the largest international military exercise engaging the victorious Croatian military since the Homeland War.\u00a0 “The Croatian soldiers demonstrated their professionalism, responsibility and readiness, and the commanding staff is proud to lead the military under the Croatian flag, as did our fellow combatants in the Homeland War\u201c.<\/p>\n
Lt. Gen. Matanovi\u0107 also said that the Exercise affirmed the cohesion of the teams and itrengthened fellowship both within teams and within our troops as well as with our partner forces with whom we will participate in joint missions. The experience is particularly important for the 1st Mechanised Infantry Company of the\u00a0 of the Guards Mechanised Brigade of the Croatian Armed Forces prior to its deployment in Lithuania within NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence. The members of the Battalion demonstrated a high level of trainedness and preparedness following a long and demanding training. <\/p>\n
Major General Ostovi\u0107 extended congratulations to the members of the Croatian Army and the allocated components for duly presenting their service and the Croatian Armed Forces, and praised their effort and exemplary display of the interoperability in an international environment. <\/p>\n
The Commander of the Romanian Army, Major General Harabagiu\u00a0 presented two members of the Croatian Armed Forces – Major Miroslav Katu\u0161a, the Commander of the Croatian contingent based at the Training Range \u201cCincu\u201c and Captain Marko Krpan, the Commander of the 1st Mechanised Company \u2013 the Medal of the Romanian Army.<\/p>\n
The international exercise \u201cSaber Guardian 17″ is an exercise of the USAREUR in the Black Sea Region taking place in Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria from 25 June \u2013 25 July\u00a0 2017 and engaging more than 25,000 members of the U.S. Army in Europe and of 22 allies and partners, among whom 258 members of the Croatian Armed Forces. <\/p>\n
