At the 277th session held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, the Croatian Government adopted the Proposal for a Regulation on Amendments to the Act on Service in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia to increase the age limit for honourable discharge of soldiers and sailors from active military service in order to leave the military system with pension entitlement.<\/p>\n

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ivan Anu\u0161i\u0107 emphasised: “Since the beginning of this Government\u2019s mandate, the Ministry of Defence has been focused on an individual as the centre of the defence system, and numerous measures have been adopted to improve the substantive rights, and living and working conditions of soldiers, non-commissioned officers and officers”.<\/p>\n

In accordance with the applicable Act on Service in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia, the age limit for honourable discharge of soldiers and sailors from military service by force of law is currently 45 years of age, so in accordance with the regulations for active duty military personnel, many of them have no pension entitlements.<\/p>\n

In this context, Minister Anu\u0161i\u0107 explained: “It is being proposed to increase the age limit for honourable discharge of this category of military personnel to 50 years of age, so that they can leave the defence system with pension entitlement. This would enable them easier transition and adjustment to life in a civilian community. In this way, one of the priority needs is addressed in order to popularize voluntary military training, admission and decision to stay in the military service,” concluded Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ivan Anu\u0161i\u0107.<\/p>\n
