1000 more soldiers on alert for combating the floods

Owing to the critical situation in the flood-hit areas of the Republic of Croatia, the Defence Minister Ante Kotromanović today, 17 February 2014 signed the Decision on deploying 1000 more members of the Croatian Armed Forces to Sisak-Moslavina and Zagreb County  in the event of need.

The soldiers will be provided with the due logistic support, transport vehicles, working  machines and a helicopter of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence  to ensure possible emergency evacuations.
400 servicemen have been deployed to the Sisak-Moslavina County already, who intensively built and reinforced sandbags. Situation was hardest over the past days in the villages of Letovanić and Stari Brod in the Lekenik Municipality, where water has entered many houses.

The flood wave along the river Sava river is heading towards Jasenovac, and flood emergency has been declared for the municipalities of Lipovljani and Jasenovac.

Along with the Sisak area, the floods have threatened the wider area of Velika Gorica near Zagreb, calling for an urgent meeting of the Protection and Rescue Headquarters of the Zagreb County. 

The highest risk is for the municipalities of Orle and the village of Čička Poljana, where the respective authorities are preparing to combat new waves of flooding, in view of the anticipated flood wave from the neighbouring Slovenia on 18 February.
