20th anniversary of founding of Aviation Medicine Institute
Institute of Aviation Medicine, which now operates within the military health centre of the Support Command, celebrated on Thursday, 26 April 2012, its 20th anniversary since the establishment.
The ceremony was attended by the commanders of the Support Command, Major General Mate Ostović and Commander of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence Brigadier General Dražen Šćuri, former directors of the Institute, as well as representatives of the City of Zagreb, the Ministry of Health and other guests.
Colonel Goran Gudelj, acting director of the Institute emphasized that the Institute was established by the Decision of the Minister of Defence on 27 April 1992, and the main task of the Institute of Aviation Medicine was medical examinations of pilots, parachutists, and other aviation personnel. In 1992 the Institute has begun working by examining two to three pilots per day, with only five employees, but over time it became respectable health institution whose greatest successes was created by educated and highly professional employees.
This was confirmed by the Commander of Military Health Centre Colonel Zvjezdan Petrović who added that the Institute annually examined about five thousand members of the Armed Forces and civilians, about 30 per day and that they can do more than 20 different types of specialist examinations.
In addition to these medical examinations, the Institute annually performs regular psychological selection of candidates for future military pilots, pilot training and classification.
Since the Ministry of Defence has signed agreements with civilian institutions such as: “Croatia Airlines”, “Croatian flight control”, Ministry of Interior, and many aero clubs in Croatia, this is the only place where civilian pilots, flight controllers , paratroopers and flight attendants can do the mandatory health checks and obtain the appropriate certificate, Colonel Petrović said.
Congratulations for the successful operation of the Institute were joined by the generals Ostović and Šćuri, wishing them a more intensive cooperation with civilian medical institutions, with the aim of better quality of health services in Croatia. On the occasion of 20th anniversary of establishing the deserving employees were commended and awarded.
