20th anniversary of the “Tigrovi” Guard Brigade
A ceremony commemorating the 20th anniversary of the “Tigrovi” Guard Brigade, organized by the veterans of the same brigade, was held in the Ministry of Defence on Friday, 5 November 2010. The ceremony was attended by a number of commanders of the legendary brigade, representatives of veterans’ organizations, delegations of the Croatian President, Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Government, Armed Forces and the City of Zagreb.
The ceremony began with laying wreaths in front of the Memorial of the First Guard Brigade members in the Ministry of Defence. Wreaths were laid, on behalf of the President of the Republic of Croatia, by Zlatko Gareljic, on behalf of the Croatian Parliament Speaker, Kresimir Cosic, on behalf of the Government Prime Minister, Minister of Family, Veterans and Intergenerational Solidarity Tomislav Ivic and Defence Minister Branko Vukelic, on behalf of the Croatian Armed Forces by the Chief of General Staff General Josip Lucic, by the delegation of the City of Zagreb led by Mayor Milan Bandic and by the Veterans’ Association of the “Tigrovi” Guard Brigade led by Andrija Kolobaric and Brigadier Zdravko Andabak.
In his address, the president of the veteran’s of the First Guard brigade Andrija Kolobaric emphasized the contribution of the” Tigrovi” in the Homeland War. He recalled that in military operations were killed 364 members of the “Tigrovi” and 1711 wounded.
Government representative, Minister of Family, Veterans and Intergenerational Solidarity Tomislav Ivic pointed out that the willingness of “Tigrovi” to sacrifice in defending the country reflected in the motto under which “Tigrovi ” fought for Croatia’s freedom and independence. “The war path of Tigers started on the ‘Bloody Easter’ on the Plitvice lakes, where the first Tiger Josip Jovic was killed and where the “Tigrovi” returned during the Storm Operation as liberators”, Minister Ivic said.
The 20th anniversary was also congratulated in their addresses by the envoy of the President of the Republic of Croatia Zlatko Gareljic, envoy of the Croatian Parliament Kresimir Cosic and Zagreb’s Mayor Milan Bandic.
On the commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the “Tigrovi” Guard Brigade visitors could also visit weapons display.
