8th Croatian contingent in KFOR

The first part of the 8th Croatian contingent was sent today, 15 September 2011, to NATO peace support operation KFOR (Kosovo Force) in Kosovo, for a period up to seven months.

The contingent consists of 20 members of the Croatian Armed Forces, the majority from the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence with two transport helicopters Mi – Sh 171, and the staff sergeant from the Support Command, which will be engaged in logistics as NSE (national support element). The rest of the contingent will be sent to the area of ​​the operation in following days.

Commander of the 8th HRVCON in KFOR is Major Marijan Skorija.

The farewell ceremony of the 8th contingent was attended by the Command Operations Centre Commander Brigadier General Vlado Sindler, Chief of Staff of the Air Force and Air Defence, Brigadier General Ivan Konc and Commander of the 91st Air Base Brigadier Darko Brajkovic.

In his address General Sindler welcomed all members of the contingent and expressed his belief that this contingent would contribute to the stability and security of Kosovo. He also noted high professionalism of all previous contingents who were praised for their work and thus contributed to strengthening the reputation of the Croatian Armed Forces.

The fundamental task of the Croatian contingent in the KFOR peacekeeping operation in Kosovo is hauling people and cargo, and contingent consists of three helicopter crews, aircraft and technical maintenance team, national support element and two Mi-171Sh transport helicopters.
