8th generation of voluntary conscripts sworn-in
Defence Minister Ante Kotromanović attended the oath ceremony of the 8th generation of soldiers on voluntary military service that was held today, 12 May 2012, in the Centre for Basic Training in Požega.
Besides Minister Kotromanović, a solemn oath was also attended by the Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Drago Lovrić, Army Commander Major General Dragutin Repinc and other senior officers of the Armed Forces, as well as representatives of Požega, Požega-Slavonia County, parents and family of conscripts and others.
Defence Minister congratulated the conscripts for they pledged allegiance to their homeland and became members of the victorious Croatian Armed Forces. “I believe that your decision on voluntary joining the military service will allow military vocation to become your future, and the Armed Forces to become a place of your successful career”, Minister Kotromanović said. He pointed out that many of the conscripts would have the opportunity to continue career in the Armed Forces, but also that they would bear a great responsibility because they would “continue the tradition of the victorious Croatian Army from the Homeland War and continue the successful work in international environment, which also asks for excellence, professionalism and commitment in performing the tasks, all in the interest of Croatia and our citizens”.
Minister also said to conscripts that he believed that they would leave the Centre for Basic Training richer with new knowledge and friendships. “I believe that you will then have even more motivation to join the Armed Forces”, the Minister said.
Conscripts were also congratulated by the Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Drago Lovrić. He told them that CAF would provide optimal conditions to achieve the training standards set. He stressed that he was particularly looking forward to the growing interest of young, educated and perspective people who decided to join the Armed Forces. “This fact encourages us in planning and creating the preconditions for integrating and training of our conscript soldiers. By this the Armed Forces creates and strengthen its human potential”, Lieutenant General Drago Lovrić said.
390 voluntary conscripts, including 39 women, sworn-in today in the Centre for Basic Training. The 8th generation of voluntary conscripts began the voluntary military service on 27 April 2012.
Throughout the past seven generations of voluntary conscripts, from the end of 2008, when conducting of voluntary military service started, until now, 1781 conscripts, of whom 1579 men and 202 women completed the training program. Also, the Defence Ministry from 2008 until now signed agreements on admission to active military service with 1138 conscripts who completed voluntary military service, of which 1016 soldiers and 122 officers.
