9th Croatian contingent sent to UNDOF mission on the Golan Heights

The first part of the 9th Contingent of the Croatian Armed Forces has left today, May 29, for the United Nations peacekeeping mission (UNDOF) on Golan Heights for the six-month period.

The farewell ceremony was attended by Commander of the Command and Operations Centre, Brigadier General Vlado Šindler.

9th Croatian contingent to UNDOF mission will have a total of 96 members of the Armed Forces including the three staff officers in the UNDOF headquarters on an annual basis. Complete rotation with 8th Contingent is planned for June. Commander of the 9th Croatian contingent to UNDOF mission is Major Davor Josip Babić, who pointed out that all members have successfully completed pre-deployment preparation and training, and that the Contingent was ready to assume their responsibilities in the operation’s area.

The UNDOF mission was established by the resolution 350 of the UN Security Council, 31 May 1974. The mandate of the UN peacekeepers on the Golan Heights is to maintain the ceasefire between Israel and Syria, to monitor cessation of hostilities between the Israeli and Syrian forces, and to monitor the area of ​​separation. The first two Croatian officers were sent to the UNDOF mission in May 2008, and the first units of the armed forces to the mission were sent a month later.

By the decision of the Croatian Parliament from 28 October 2011, maximum number of CAF members in the UNDOF mission during 2012 and 2013 is 110.
