Croatian Defence Academy hosts IDDE Conference

A two-day the international research conference titled ” Innovation – Driven Defence Enterprising” (IDDE) was opened in the Croatian Defence Academy  “Dr. Franjo Tuđman“ on October 2015.

The Conference is organised by the Croatian Parliament delegation to NATO Parliamentary Assembly, supported by the Croatian Minister of Defence  and the Croatian Armed Forces in co-operation with NATO Science and Technology Organisation and the Croatian Defence Academy. It is
The Conference addresses the academic community with the objective of the application of research into defence and security and the development of new technologies.  It will feature twenty researchers from the Croatian and international research community. It will feature twenty lecturers from the Croatian and international academic community.
Alongside the lecturers and other representatives of the academic community, the Conference was attended by the Envoy of the President of the Republic, Colonel Damir Terzić, the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Josip Leko, Deputy Defence Minister, Višnja Tafra, the Chairman of the NATO Science and Technology Organisation, Major General (BE)Albert Husniaux, the Head of the Croatian Parliament delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Boris Blažeković and Deputy Commander of the Croatian Defence Academy, Brigadier General Zdravko Klanac.
The Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Josip Leko stated the Conference would yield new scientific and technological findings, and underlined military application of science in today’s world.
 “The innovations can find application not only in crisis response, but also to prevent the crises; it  has to be done legally though, minding the civilians and general population health“.
Croatian Deputy Defence Minister Višnja Tafra said science and innovation had always had a prominent role in defence and will remain crucial for the development of defence capabilities against the current and future challenges.
Speaking of the importance of the Conference, Major General Albert Husniaux epmhasised the Allies’ commitment to the development of science as NATO’s future ability key enabler. We need to build a larger sci-tech base in the areas of defence and security, said MG Husniaux.
The Head of the Croatian Parliament delegation to NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Boris Blažeković expressed the satisfaction over the wide support from the Croatian Parliament, the Croatian Ministry of Defence, the Croatian academic community, the private enterprise and NATO.
The positive feedback has led us to consider organising the conference of the kind more often, on a biannual basis perhaps. The Conference on the one hand promotes the development of science and on the other the development of relations between the scientific, military and economy institutions. Investment means security“, said Blažeković.
The Conference comprises three topics: Design and Fabrication of Advanced Materials; Novel Sensing and Detection Systems UV/UAV/Robotics and IT and is to be concluded with a panel discussion.
