Defence Miniister visits Croatian Army

The Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Damir Krstičević and the Deputy Chief of the General Staffof the Croatian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Drago Matanović on 29 November 2016 visited the Croatian Army Command in the Barracks “Domobranska” in Karlovac.

The Minister paid the tribute to the fallen, deceased and missing Croatian defenders from the Homeland War by lawing wreaths and lighting the candles at the memorial cross.
Lieutenant General Mate Ostović, the Commander, delivered a presentation on  the Croatian Army.
The Minister expressed satisfaction over visiting the Croatian Army Command: „this visit is a homecoming for me and a reminder of the early days of the victorious Croatian military and of the  decisive moments when the Croatian soldiers, led by patriotism and the desire for peace, defended and liberated our homeland“.

Minister Krstičević addressed the new strategic  documents (the National Security Strategy and the Homeland Security System Act) .“the new framework aims at preventing and predicting instead of merely reacting to challenges, and it  will set new assignments before  the Croatian Army  with new capabilities to be built  and the existing ones to be further improved, while some traditional tasks will be abandoned“.

The Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Drago Matanović stressed that the efficiency rested on teamwork. “The Croatian Armed Forces are ready to fulfull any requests and goals placed before them“.

The Minister inspected the lined up UN Engineer Company , and highlighted the importance of  ensuring adequate living and working conditions for the victorious army. He also appealed on hard work, excellence, honesty, morale and the values of the Homeland War.

The Minister also visited the accomodation and training capacities of the Training Range “Cerovac”.

The Croatian Army, with 7909 members is the largest service of the Croatian Armed Forces; presently 58 members are engaged in peace support operations.  In the course of 2016 the  Army has conducted a total of 30 military exercises.
