Minister Krstičević visits Croatian Defence Academy
The Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Damir Krstičević and the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Mirko Šundov on 28 February visited the Croatian Defence Academy “Dr. Franjo Tuđman” stationed in the barracks “Petar Zrinski” in Zagreb, where they were welcomed by the Academy staff and the Commander, Lieutenant General Slavko Barić.
Minister Krstičević delivered a lecture on “The Homeland Security System – Partnership for Safety“ for the Academy Staff and the students of the War School “Ban Josip Jelačić” and the Command and Staff School “Blago Zadro”, in which he presented the process of drafting the strategic documents – the National Security Strategy and the Act on the Homeland Security System“, which will reorganise the present concept of the national security.
The Academy Commander, Lt. Gen. Barić presented the Academy’s mission, the organisation and tasks, the ongoing and planned activities related to the military education system and the many research and educational projects administered.
The Minister reminded of the important role of the Academy training the officers and NCOs during the Homeland War, and nowadays was about to become a respectable higher education institution, as proved by the military study programmes which constitute a modern and interesting approach to the education and preparation of future officers of the victorious Croatian Army. The Minister called on the Academy staff to continue developing education programmes and improving all supporting segments“.
The Chief of the General Staff commended the Academy’s achievements and activities and pledged full support to new projects. The national defence and security system, said General Šundov, has sufficient potential to ensure the Academy provides the required level of education for the national armed forces members and other components of the system.
The Minister visited the working and accomodation capacities of the Croatian Defence Academy.
The Croatian Defence Academy is a higher education institution of the Croatian Armed Forces established to provide education and training to prepare the officers, NCOs and civilian employees to perform the tasks of the Croatian Armed Forces as defined by the strategic documents and mission.
The Academy administers education programmes for the members of the Croatian Armed Forces as well as for the visiting members of the foreign militaries, namely: the regular cycles of the Basic and Avanced NCO education, the Basic and Advanced Officer Education, the Inter-service Command and Staff Education and the War School. It also comprises the Foreign Languages Centre, the Military Diplomatic Course, the Strategic Planning Course and a series of specialised courses.
The year 2014 saw the launching of two university study programmes: Military Engineering and Military Management. The undergraduate military university study programmes have been designed to provide education for the future officers of the Croatian Armed Forces, as a joint project of the Croatian Armed Forces and the University of Zagreb, and as such have been filed in the Ministry of Science, Education and Sport’s Directory of Study Programmes.
