Meeting of the US-Adriatic Charter (A5) on ISAF contribution
Croatian delegation led by State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Pjer Simunovic participated on Tuesday, November 23, at the meeting of the US-Adriatic Charter in Sarajevo entitled “Joint contribution of the US-Adriatic Charter to ISAF operation”.
The meeting, attended by representatives of the US-Adriatic Charter, was organized upon the initiative within the organization to organize and send joint regional teams of instructors and mentors for the training of Afghan security forces in the ISAF operation. The above initiative the Republic of Croatia has emphasized on several occasions in previous bilateral and multilateral meetings of ministers of defence and foreign affairs of US-Adriatic Charter signatory countries, in order to support capacity building of Afghanistan’s security sector to take responsibility for security and stability in Afghanistan. Accordingly, at a meeting in Sarajevo, opportunities, resources and capabilities that would be available for joint contributions from the US-Adriatic Charter to ISAF, the process of national decision-making in support of such engagement and other topics were examined. During discussion, representatives of countries of the US-Adriatic Charter have expressed their strong commitment to the allied efforts in Afghanistan and to building sustainable Afghan institutions, and in this context, underlined their readiness to initiate further activities in support of implementation of joint regional involvement in the ISAF operation in Afghanistan.
The A5 initiatives consist of member states of the US-Adriatic Charter: the United States, Croatia, Albania, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
