CAF Chief of General Staff visits U.S.

At the invitation of Chief of Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of the United States, Chief of General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Josip Lucic and his associates have been in official visit to the United States since 9 January 2011.

General Lucic, accompanied by the Commander of the CAF GS Support Command Major General Mate Ostovic, Deputy Commander of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence, Brigadier General Drazen Scuri, and Croatian military attaché in the United States, Brigadier General Mate Padjen will visit the Pentagon, NATO ACT and Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, and Central Command in Tampa, where he will meet with the United States Armed Forces senior commanders.

On the first day of visit, on Monday, 10 January 2011, General Lucic was received by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Armed Forces, Admiral Mike Mullen. After the welcoming ceremony, which was organized in front of the Pentagon, Croatian and U.S. delegation held a staff talks. On this occasion, they exchanged views on the bilateral military cooperation, discussed the participation of members of CAF in ISAF operation in Afghanistan and capabilities, and new forms of further cooperation.

After visiting the Pentagon, Chief of General Staff General Lucic laid a wreath at the tomb of the unknown hero at the Arlington military memorial cemetery, and then met the Commander of the Minnesota National Guard, Major General Richard Nash. State of Minnesota is a partner state of the Republic of Croatia within the “State Partnership Program”, with which we have the joint OMLT in the ISAF operation in Afghanistan.
