Licensing of CAF official guides and service dogs

The licensing of guide and service dogs of the Military Police Regiments, Navy Military Police, Honour Battalion, Special Operations Battalion and the Ministry of Finance – Customs Administration, carried out by the training instructors from the Training Centre of the Guides and Service Dogs has been conducted in the Training Centre of the Guides and Service Dogs, “Cpt Kresimir Ivosevic” in Dugo Selo, from 11 to 28 January 2011.

Licensing is carried out in three periods, and the licensing includes guides and service dogs trained to detect explosives, narcotics and guides and service dogs for protection – tracking purposes. Having successfully passed all disciplines with service dogs, guides will be licensed for the current year, which is in accordance with the results achieved on the final exam can be for a period of 6, 9 or 12 months. Teams – guides and service dogs, provide great assistance in performing the tasks in the CAF, as well as provide the psychological security to protected people. Trained guides and service dogs increase ability to locate and apprehend suspects, to detect explosives and narcotics and significantly contribute to power of unit that uses them. Due to the specific tasks they perform in their field, guides and service dogs of all specialties are required to access the annual licensing. Training of service military and police dogs has been conducted since 1992 in the Centre. They have been engaged in the breeding of Belgian Shepherds, German Shepherds, Dutch Shepherds and Labradors, and currently have about 45 dogs in the Centre.
