Minister Kotromanović visited “Lt.Col. Predrag Matanović” barracks in Petrinja
Defence Minister Ante Kotromanović visited today, on Friday, 20 January 2012, “Lt.Col. Predrag Matanović” in Petrinja including housing, training and storage facilities in this long term perspective barracks of the Croatian Armed Forces.
Defence Minister Kotromanović was welcomed by the Chief of General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Drago Lovrić, Commander of the Croatian Army (HKoV) Dragutin Repinc, and Commander of Guards Motorized Brigade (GMTBR) Brigadier General Mladen Fuzul, who presented the situation in the barracks and the prospects of its further use and development plan.
In addition to the activities at the barracks and its features and characteristics of individual facilities, general Fuzul briefed Minister on fulfilment of units and stressed that the command staff was much rejuvenated lately, presenting the battalion commanders of “Tigrovi” and “Gromovi” battalions which are located in Petrinja.
Besides these troops, other units like logistics and supply have been stationed in the barracks as well. Minister Kotromanović expressed his satisfaction that this perspective barracks on 322 hectares does not interfere with the development of the city and this area, while at the same times has been very useful for the CAF, because in once place it has accommodation and storage facilities as well as training ground and shooting range. Minister Kotromanović in his address to the battalion commanders of “Tigrovi” and “Gromovi” said he personally knew how difficult it is to be a commander, when you must fulfil specific tasks and the conditions under which you do it not always comply with the requirements.
Minister particularly praised the participation of the Armed Forces in international missions and operations, which have been demanding and responsible tasks. Minister Kotromanović said that the Ministry of Defence was working hard to reduce all unnecessary costs and reduce the administrative part of the Ministry of Defence as well as making high-quality structure that will minimize duplication of responsibilities between the Ministry of Defence and General Staff. That saved funds will be diverted on training and exercises of CAF members. The Minister pointed out they have been working on more quality and better management of staff and personnel career of soldiers, NCOs and officers, as well as on changes of legislation in the defence field.
