Deputy Defence Minister Višnja Tafra met British Admiral Stanhope
Deputy Minister of Defence Višnja Tafra met today, on Friday, 3 February 2012, the Commander of the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Admiral Mark Stanhope.
In the talks with Admiral Stanhope, Deputy Defence Minister Višnja Tafra thanked for the support of the United Kingdom to the Croatia’s accession to the European Union, stressing that Croatia by its activities has been already contributing to European security and defence policy. On that occasion she also pointed out that the defence cooperation between the two countries was good and at this time more focused on quality rather than volume, expressing the hope that the Croatia’s accession to the EU would expand this cooperation. Tafra informed Admiral Stanhope about current activities in the Ministry of Defence, in particular regarding the reform of the Croatian defence system. Admiral Stanhope stressed that the Republic of Croatia, due to its size, exceptionally contributed to peacekeeping operations and missions, both to NATO and the UN, and also emphasized the good cooperation between the two navies.
Apart from the Deputy Minister of Defence Tafra, Admiral Stanhope during a visit to the Republic of Croatia, met with the Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces Rear Admiral (UH) Zdenko Simičić and Croatian Navy Commander Rear Admiral (LH) Ante Urlić.
