Rotation of Navy officer in EU naval operation “Atalanta”
Officer of the Croatian Navy Lieutenant Commander Ivica Pavić took these days the post of operations analyst in the Command of the European Union naval operation “Atalanta” in Nortwood in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from Navy Lieutenant Marinko Rubić that has returned from the operation on Friday, 10 February 2012.
This continues an active participation of the Croatian Navy in the first EU maritime operation that was launched for the protection of food aid programs in Somalia, and for the fight against piracy in the Gulf of Aden and in waters off Somalia.
Lieutenant Commander Ivica Pavić is the eleventh Navy officer who participates in this operation. He was born on 16 August 1971 in Livno, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He graduated from the Faculty of Law in Split and the Command and Staff College at the Croatian Military Academy “Petar Zrinski”. He is a member of the Croatian Armed Forces since 1993, and held a number of duties in Navy Flotilla, among others, as a Commander of Mine-laying Ship – DBM-81, of the Rescue Ship “Faust Vrančić” – BS-73, deputy commander of support unit, and before leaving he was Head of the Training and Doctrine Section in the Navy Command.
Members of the Croatian Armed Forces have been participating in the European Union’s operation “Atalanta” according to the Decision of the Croatian Parliament from 3 April 2009.
