Minnesota National Guard Commander visits Divulje

A delegation of the Minnesota National Guard, led by Commander, Maj. Gen. Richard Nash visited on Thursday, 17 May 2012, Fire-fighting Task Force Command of the Croatian Armed Forces (CAF FF TF) located in “Knez Trpimir” Barracks in Divulje near Split.

General Nash and members of the Minnesota National Guard were welcomed by the Commander of the Army Major General Dragutin Repinc and CAF FF TF Commander Major General Mate Obradovic, who provided a presentation on the role and tasks of the CAF FF TF.

The U.S. delegation was acquainted with the duties of CAF FF TF, which include fighting forest fires, fire prevention monitoring in coastal area of ​​Croatia, hauling forces and resources to participate in fire-fighting activities, water supply of fire-fighters and residents, search and rescue, supervision, coordination and commanding of forces at the fire site. They were also presented with the level of cooperation with civilian organizations involved in fire protection, primarily with the National Protection and Rescue directorate, Croatian Mountain Rescue Service and Fire-fighting Association. The guests were also presented with operational procedures by which CAF FF TF engage in fire-fighting activities.

At the end of the presentation, the U.S. delegation was acquainted with figures regarding 2011 fire-fighting season. CAF fire-fighting aircraft were engaged in 297 different fires extinguishing, during which they conducted 1964 flight hours and dropped more than 52 000 tons of water, while during the first five months of 2012, they were engaged in 74 different fires-fighting actions,  spending 215.5 flight hours and dropping 6170 tons of water.
