Minister Krstičević meets with Minister of National Defence of Romania
The Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Damir Krstičević on 27 March 2018 met with the Minister of National Defence of Romania Mihai-Viorel Fifor, who was on a two-day visit to the Republic of Croatia with the delegation of the representatives of Romanian economy.
The two ministers agreed that Romania and Croatia as NATO and EU member nations shared the same interests and responsibility towards stable environment in southeast Europe.
Minister Krstićević praised the expanding bilateral co-operation and stressed that it was of strategic interest for the Republic of Croatia.
The Romanian Minister expressed satisfaction with the bilateral co-operation of the ministries and the armed forces of Croatia and Romania and pointed out the new opportunities within the EU’s PESCO initiative.
The ministers also considered the future co-operation in the domains of air force and engineering, particularly in the defence industry and underlined the importance of increased economic co-operation, in support to the Croatian and Romanian firms.
They discussed the importance of outlining and defining strategic priorities related to the presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The ministers concluded that NATO remained an important co-operation pillar, particularly through joint participation in international military missions and operations, emphasising that the Tailored Forward Presence in Romania and Bulgaria and the Enhanced Forward Presence in the Lithuania and in Poland, where members of the Croatian and Romanian armed forces are stationed, have sent off a strong message of solidarity and unity of the political will throughout the Alliance.
After the meeting ministers Krstičević and Fifor visited the static display of the weapons and the equipment used by the Croatian Armed Forces set in the Ministry of Defence compound and later on opened formally the conference of the representatives of the Croatian and the Romanian defence industries.
Minister Krstičević stressed that in addition to the joint participation in international military exercises, the opportunities for further intensification of the co-operation lied in joint fulfilling of NATO capabilities and in the economy. also has in common achievement of NATO’s Aims of Capacity as well as in the economy. “This conference offers the opportunity for the co-operation of defence industries of the two countries“, said Minister Krstičević.
The Romanian Minister praised the military co-operation between Romania and Croatia and expressed the interest to expand it to the defence industry, with special focus on the Croatia-made rifle.
The Croatian and the Romanian delegations headed by the ministers met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Andrej Plenković, with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Crafts Martina Dalić and visited the firm “HS Produkt d.o.o“.
