Defence Minister presents to President of the Republic the projects for Military Museum and Homeland Monument
The President of the Republic Ivo Josipović on Friday 24 January 2014 met with the Defence Minister Ante Kotromanović, Minister of the Croatian Homeland War Veterans, Predrag Matić, Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Drago Lovrić and the Mayor of Zagreb, Milan Bandić.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Culture and of Ministry of Science, Education and Sports to discuss the initiatives related to construction of a Croatian Military Museum and of a Monument to the Homeland.

It was agreed to have the Military Museum and the Monument built at the sites of the former factory named “Gredelj” and the Paromlin industrial building in the centre of Zagreb, and the Croatian Military Cemetery within the Zagreb’s central cemetery (“Mirogoj Cemetery”)  respectively.

President Josipović stated following the meeting that synergy between the government institutions and the City of Zagreb would  yield important ideas and projects. 
„The Ministry of Croatian Homeland War Veterans and the Ministry of Defence have presented the proposals to  open a a Military Museum and the Monument to the Homeland (or alternatively – the Monument to the Unknown Soldier), said President Josipović following the meeting, and added that the name of the Monument was to be decided by a respective Board.

In President’s words: “We have reached important preliminary agreements, which I think will in the near future bring valuable projects for the Republic of Croatia and the City of Zagreb”. 

Defence Minister Ante Kotromanović and Minister of Croatian Homeland War Veterans Predrag Matić pledged their support to the Initiative to realise the facilities much needed by both the City of Zagreb and the two ministries.
