New military study programmes presented
The Croatian Defence Academy “Petar Zrinski” and RACVIAC on Thursday 6 February 2014 organised a media conference on “Transition of Military Education System in South-East Europe”, attended by the Director of the Defence Academy, Lieutenant General Slavko Barić, Director of the Centre for Security Co-operation, Ambassador Branimir Mandić and his Deputy, Brig. Gen. Zdravko Jakop and the Vice-rector for Study Programmes of the University Zagreb, Ph.D. Blaženka Divjak.
The new Croatian military study programmes „Military Management“ and „Military Engineering“, to be launched in the academic year 2014/2015, were presented at the seminar entitled “Transition of Military Education System in the South-East Europe”, held 4-6 February 2014 at the Centre for Security Co-operation (RACVIAC), discussing the co-operation of the military and civilian sector in the education system, in view of the successful co-operation between the Croatian Defence Academy and the Centre.
The Director of the Croatian Defence Academy, Lt. Gen. Slavko Barić stressed that the study programmes in question were opened for candidates from other countries as well. “The programmes are primarily intended for Croatian citizens and the Armed Forces, but remain open for for all countries of the region and the European Union and NATO nations respectively”. Lt. Gen. Barić also underlined that the transformation of the military education system entailed regular higher education and integration into the civilian education system, conferring the diplomas to the graduating cadets and becoming eligible for exchange with military academies and other institutions from other countries.
The Vice Rector of the University of Zagreb, Ph. D. Blaženka Divjak announced that the two new programmes were due to receive the first students in September 2014. “We expect to obtain the approval at the session of the Senate of the University scheduled for next week, to enable us to complete the accreditation process. The secondary schools graduates’ interest for the programmes is considerable, with larger preference shown for Military management”, stated Vice-rector Divjak.
The Director of the Centre for Security Co-operation emphasised that the topics related on the co-operation of the military and civilian sectors in the education systems were discussed from the aspect of the Euro-Atlantic integration. “Croatia has designed a quality programme, which has been studied by the representatives of eight South-East Europe countries, who presented their own countries’ programmes and the possibilities for future co-operation”, stated Ambassador Mandić.
