Military Helicopter rescues injured pregnant tourist from Velebit
The crew of the Transport Helicopter Squadron of the 93rd Croatian Air Force and Air Defence Base rescued an injured pregnant German tourist from Velebit mountain on Thursday, 7 August 2014.
The Mi-8 MTV helicopter crew Captain, Major Stjepan Stepić said that the crew took off from Split on 4.40 p. m, taking aboard a local team of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS).
Defying the strong wind the crew managed to find a landing spot close to the mountain lodge of the Paklenica National Park; the tourist was administered medical aid and her condition stabilised for evacuation from the Park, accompanied by her family.
In view of the severity of her injuries, the helicopter had to land at the new Zadar’s «Gaženica» port, where she was handed over to the urgent medical team and transported to the Zadar General Hospital. The intervention was concluded at 6 p.m., as the 11th search and rescue intervention of the Transport Helicopter Squadron in 2014, with a total of three patients and some 80 members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service and the Ministry of the Interior transported.
