Deputy Minister attends EU Defence Ministerial

Croatian Deputy Defence Minister, Višnja Tafra participated at the informal EU Defence Ministerial held in Milan, Italy on 9 and 10 September 2014.

On 9 September the ministers reviewed the progress achieved in the implementation of the conclusions of the European Council of December 2013 and discussed the political framework for long-term defence co-operation, the new options to optimise the funding for operations and operations and the rapid response options in crisis situations. Addressing the forum, Deputy Minister Tafra underlined the support to enhanced defence co-operation among the member countries, and the importance of co-ordination and complementarity with the activities by NATO. The participants also addressed the European Union Battlegroups (EUBG), with the focus on decisions aimed at their higher efficiency and usability.
The agenda of the 10 September featured the European Defence Agency and the political orientations for its operation in the next decade. That was also the occasion to mark the 10th anniversary of the Agency’s establishment.
The Ministerial concluded with the review of the EU-led current operations and missions and of the demands implied in equipping and training of the armed forces of third countries. In her contribution Deputy Minister Tafra called on monitoring the security and political situation in Bosnia and Herzegova in view of the forthcoming general elections and praised the effects of the Operation “Althea”.
