New Croatian Defence Academy Campus facilities presented
The newly refurbished facilities and the future Croatian Defence Academy Campus were officially presented and displayed on 6 October 2014.
The Croatian Defence Academy Commander, Lieutenant General Slavko Barić briefed the Defence Minister, Ante Kotromanović and the Chief of the General Staff, General Drago Lovrić on the completed works and the remaining projects timeline.
In accordance with the respective plans, the Croatian Defence Academy will have the classrooms, demonstration classrooms, living rooms and dormitories. They will be complemented, as announced by the Academy Commander, with garages, a swimming pool, archive facility and the accommodation facilities. According to plans, the Campus will in future comprise 5700 sq meters, comprising the sports grounds, a martial arts training hall, over 30 classrooms, 7 lecture theatres and a number of military demonstration classrooms, as well as the Foreign Languages Centre ”Katarina Zrinska“ and the Centre for Strategic Research. The total investment for the modern campus, meeting top standards, is estimated on 100 mil kuna (13 millions EUR).
Defence Minister Kotromanović expressed satisfaction over the progress of the projects and announced the planned establishment of a Centre of Excellence in the Defence Academy offering regional top standards of living and studying for cadets, NCOs and officers. “So far 22 mil kuna funds (cca 28 millions EUR) have been invested into the facilities, which will be reimbursed, under the signed agreement with the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund, and reinvested into new facilities. The works have been carried out by Croatian firms, which was one of our goals as well. The presented Croatian military education model has been commended by many“, said Minister Kotromanović.
The Chief of the General Staff, General Drago Lovrić highlighted the significant and thorough transformation of the Croatian Defence Academy, aimed at investing into the human potential as the vital asset of the Croatian Armed Forces. The Croatian Defence Academy has undertaken a major transformation, hardware- wise, through the construction of facilities and other top-level conditions for the education of enlisted soldiers, NCOs and officers, and software-wise, through the study programmes developed in co-operation with the University of Zagreb, to educate the NCO and officer staff capable of responding to future challenges“, said General Lovrić. He also announced that by 2017 the Croatian Defence Academy would train over 400 cadets.
