Defence Minister visits the Republic of Turkey
Defence Minister Ante Kotromanović on 9 October 2014 met with his Turkish counterpart, Minister Ismet Yilmaz, on his official visit to the Republic of Turkey.
The bilateral meeting at the ministerial level covered the bilateral co-operation and its prospects for the future, particularly in the domain of military education and training, including the possibilities of the exchange of military students, and defence industry co-operation. Minister Kotromanović will also visit the Turkish War Colleges Command.
They also discussed the matters of relevance for NATO policy and operation following the Wales Summit and the regional security situation. Both sides agreed on the mutual interest in the stability in South-east Europe, the Middle East and the Mediterranean.
“The Republic of Croatia welcomes Turkish decision to join the global coalition fighting the ISIL. As an Ally and a friend we share your concerns, as the instability of the Middle East and in the north Africa are a threat to all of us”, said Minister Kotromanović.
Minister Yilmaz in his turn emphasised Croatia having a key role in the stability of South-east Europe.
The ministers also discussed the current status of the regional initiatives and agreed to work on developing their content and visibility. Both Croatia and Turkey are SEDM Countries; Croatia is planned to host the SEDM ministerial and the Comprehensive Regional Meeting (CRM) in 2015, and Turkey is taking over the chairmanship of the Initiative.
