Govt adopts Report on Implementation of National Security Strategy
The Government of the Republic of Croatia at its 138 session held on 17 January adopted the Report on the Implementation of the National Security Strategy of the Republic of Croatia, submitted by the Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Damir Krstičević, as well as the proposed Croatian Armed Forces personnel reception plan for 2019.
The report will be forwarded to the Croatian Parliament for discussion and adoption, in compliance with the respective provision of the Strategy.
Prime Minister Andrej Plenković emphasised it was the first integral report submitted since the adoption of the Strategy in July 2017.
The report covers the period from July 2017 (the adoption of the Strategy) to the submittal to the Croatian Parliament. The Report summarizes the the efforts and achievements to date aimed at promoting the national interests and implementation of strategic goals. The Report underlines a balanced approach to all interests and goals as defined in the Strategy and serves as a starting point for intensification and co-ordination of efforts to identify and respond to the threats to the national security.

The concept of national security comprises security of the population, the protection of territorial integrity and sovereignty of Croatia, the strengthening of the derfence system and other components of the government for efficient coping with the direct security threats and risks.
“The comprehensive approach is the cornerstone of the homeland security system which is being put in place“, said the Minister,.
The session also featured the presentation of the Proposed Plan of Reception of Personnel for the Year 2019, continuing the permanent process of planned reception ofenlisted soldiers and young officers for changed age structure and size of the Croatian Armed Forces.
The proposed Plan comprises reception of 976 new employees entering the competition for the enlisted soldier and officer posts and the 629 employees will change categories.
The last amendments to the Act on the Service in the Croatian Armed Forces from 2018 entail the amended military service compared to the previous period, replacing the former consecutive contracts in the duration of up to 15 years with the possibility of offering a full-time contract following the exiperation of the first military service.
“This significant measure,introduced in the amendments ensure employment security and life planning and all rights entailed in a full-time employment. In the course of 2018 as many as , 526 soldiers signed full-time military service contracts, and in 2019 the Plan enivsages 1000 more soldiers to do so“, concluded Minister Krstičević.
Following the session the Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Damir Krstičević and the Chief of General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces General Mirko Šundov presented the proposed new organisation of the Croatian Armed Forces.
