AAT Crews Complete Air Targeting

The attendees of the 3rd Course of the joint Croatian-Czech-Hungarian training of the Air Advisory Team Pre-deployment Training Course on 8 February successfully completed the targeting practice in the helicopter training range „Crvena Zemlja“ near Knin. The event was a segment of the Course’s Training Programme, towards better co-ordination of the helicopter crews for joint operation of pilots, flight technicians and side gunners in the mission of counselling and mentoring of the Afghan Air Force.  The participants were the side gunners from the Czech and Hungarian Armed Forces with the M84 PKM guns from the M1-171 Sh against ground targets.

The Course itself was run in the „Zemunik“ Barracks (the 93rd Air Force and Air Defence Base), as joint training of helicopter teams and flight technicians within the pre-deployment training for the ISAF Operation as Air Force Mentoring Teams for Afghani Air Force by NATO standards and procedures. The participating countries were Croatia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, while Slovakia attended as observer. Other NATO and Partner countries have declared interest in the training.

The 3rd Course was specific for employing for the first time the Mi-24 helicopters provided by the Czech Air Force and for including the Mi-24 pilots, prior to their deployment as mentors to Afghani fighting helicopters pilots. The helicopters were used in the AAT PT Course to simulate combat escort to Croatian transportation helicopters.
