NATO CHODs met to discuss strengthening the Allies’ capabilities for deterrence and defence
The Chief of the CAF General Staff, Admiral Robert Hranj, participated in the NATO Military Committee in Chiefs of Defence Session, which was held on 17 and 18 January 2024 in Brussels.
At the first regular meeting this year, the NATO CHODs met to discuss strengthening the Allies’ capabilities for deterrence and defence.
In addition to the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and the Commander of the Allied Operations Command, General Christopher Cavoli also participated in the meeting. The Supreme Allied Commander Transformations (SACT), General Philippe Lavigne, participated in the meeting via video teleconference. Along with the NATO CHODs, Sweden also participated in the meeting as an invited nation.
During the two-day meeting, discussions were held about the implementation of deterrence and defence plans, the joint development of capabilities for the implementation of multi-domain operations, including integrated air and missile defence, and the requirements for capabilities within the NATO defence planning process. New changes in the security environment require the Alliance to adapt and develop the necessary capabilities.
Special meetings were also held with partners – with Ukraine, a group of partners for the development of interoperability and the Indo-Pacific group of partners, related to the strengthening of cooperation and joint contribution to global security.
Along with Admiral Hranj, the Military Representative of the Republic of Croatia to NATO and the EU, LTG Boris Šerić and the Head of CAF GS Planning Directorate, BG Gordana Garašić, participated in the meeting.
