Aerial Firefighting Conference opens in Zadar

The Višnjik Sport Centre  in Zadar was the opening venue of a two-day international firefighting conference “Aerial Firefighting Europe 2015“, organised by the UK-based Tangent Link with the assistance of the Croatian Ministry of Defence and the National Search and Rescue.

The Conference was officially opened by the Chairman, Rear Admiral, Terry Loughran, UK Royal Navy, who emphasised 200 representatives and 20 exhibitors from all over the world. „I am most glad that Croatia is hosting this year’s Conference, and would particularly like to point out the internationality, because co-operation and interoperability are a key in this domain“, stated Radm Loughran.
Addressing the attendees on behalf of the Minister of Defence Ante Kotromanović, Major Davor Turković, Captain on Cl 415 Canadair, bidded them welcome to Zadar – a central place in aerial firefighting in Croatia. The Conference provides an opportunity for pilots and operators to exchange the respective experiences and discuss the latest technological solutions, training and other tasks related to aerial firefighting.We are all well aware of the potentially devastating impact of fires, having witnessed a number of times to fires endangering property as well as human lives. This necessitates superior co-ordination and swift action on the site“, said Major Turković, who stressed that Croatia as the latest EU member was determined to employ the available tools to create a better and safer environment. The benefit of the Conference is in producing solutions to achieve ever better and more systematic fire prevention and fighting.

The Director of the National Search and Rescue Directorate, Jadran Perinić emphasised the necessity of co-operation at a global level, as the fire impact often exceeds individual countries capacities.  W“The Conference is an important opportunity to exchange experiences and expand knowledge in th domain, said Director Perinić, who also underlined the importance of standardised regulation.
The aerial firefighting conference is the regular annual event for firefighting experts. It features a broad spectrum of issues related to aerial firefighting presented by domestic and visiting lecturers. This year’s conference in Zadar is attended by representatives from 20 countries and the leading international firefighting and prevention technology and equipment, which is displayed in the Višnjik Hall and in the nearby 93rd Air Base in Zemunik. The agenda for 30 April features a live aerial firefighting demonstration.
