Croatia continues to be an ally of Albania, and vice versa. We will continue to support it in its efforts to join the European Union, says Anušić
On Thursday, 25 January 2024, the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Albania, Niko Peleshi, met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the Republic of Croatia, Ivan Anušić, and his associates at the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Croatia.
They discussed the current state of international politics and security, bilateral collaboration between the two nations, opportunities to improve military andtechnical cooperation, joint activities and interests within NATO, and regional initiatives.
The ministers agreed to a new defence-related Memorandum of Understanding between the ministries of defence of the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Albania, which will strengthen relations between the two nations.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Anušić stated: “Today, Minister Peleshi came to the Ministry of Defence with his delegation, and we had a working meeting. We discussed a wide range of current problems and situations, one of which was undoubtedly the security situation in southeast Europe. For this reason, we signed the Memorandum of Understanding today. The diplomatic ties between our two nations are excellent. Since both nations joined NATO fifteen years ago and during the negotiations with the European Union, Croatia has consistently been Albania’s ally and supporter. It is critical that we have reached consensus on all issues we discussed today and that Croatia continues to be an ally of Albania, just as Albania is an ally of Croatia. We will continue to support it in its pursuit of EU membership.”
Niko Peleshi, Albania’s Minister of Defence, expressed his satisfaction with the meeting by saying, “I am glad that we will keep up and strengthen our defence cooperation. Furthermore, I am pleased that our collaboration will continue within the framework of the regional initiatives in which we jointly participate.
This is the first bilateral meeting Minister Anušić held in Zagreb after assuming the duties of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence.
