All Souls’ Day Mass for the Fallen Defenders
Celebrating the All Saints’ Day and All Souls Day, a Memorial Mass for the Fallen Defenders from the Homeland War was served in the “Sveta Mati Slobode“ Church in Zagreb on 2 November 2014 (All Souls Day), which was attended by the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Josip Leko, the envoys of the President of the Republic, the representatives of the Ministry of Defence, of the Croatian Homeland War Veterans, and of the veterans associations and the family members of fallen and missing veterans.
The Mass was served by the Croatian Military Ordinary, Mons. Juraj Jezerinac, who called on building of the society of peace and on praying for the fallen and victimised in the Homeland War and emphasised that All Souls’ Day was the occasion to pay respects to the daring combatants and others who demonstrated the true patriotism.
Mons. Jezerinac asserted peace as the ultimate goal to seek. “The aggressor strived to seize a part of the Croatian territory, and when all efforts to prevent the war failed, the Croatian defenders did not hesitate to take up arms and sacrify their own lives to bring peace to their country and people. The bearers of peace in the region merit special reverence“.
