Ana Rukavina Foundation action in MOD
Interested members of the Croatian Armed Forces and MOD will be involved in the action of Ana Rukavina Foundation, enroll in the Croatian Register of voluntary donors of hematopoietic stem cells, and give a blood sample for HLA typing (procedure for determining antigen tissue tolerance). The action will be held on Wednesday, 5 December 2012, from 9.00 to 11.00 am on the Croatian Military Academy “Petar Zrinski” in Zagreb.
The Ministry of Defence and the Ana Rukavina Foundation are organizing this, the first of the three humanitarian actions for CAF and MOD members in Zagreb, planned in December 2012, in the premises of the Military ambulance Croatia and Military ambulance in Zvonimir Street 4.
Bone marrow transplantation can cure patients with acute and chronic forms of leukemia and patients with severe bone marrow malfunction, and potential donors, by enrolling in the Register of stem cells, can save someone’s life. The Croatian Register of voluntary donors of hematopoietic stem cells have enrolled 37 328 potential donors, of which 33 275 samples were genotyped. Croatian Register of voluntary donors of hematopoietic stem cells issued 24 transplants, of which, 15 were for recipients in Croatia and 9 were for recipients abroad, which have saved 24 lives.
