Anti-Fascist Coalition Victory Commemorated at Batina

The Victory Day (9 May) saw commemoration of the fallen Anti-fascist combatants and the participants of the Battle at Batina.

The commemoration ceremony traditionally gathered senior representatives of the State and County authorities, ambassadors and representatives of the Embassies of the countries participating in the Battle as well as the representatives of the Federation of the Anti-fascist Veterans, who laid wreaths and lighted candles in memory of the victims.

The respects to the fallen combatants were paid by the Envoy of the President of the Republic as the Supreme Commander of the Croatian Armed Forces, Commander of the Support Command, Maj. Gen. Mate Ostović, the Envoy of the Croatian Parliament, Domagoj Hajduković, MP, and the representative of the Ministry of Defence and the Croatian Armed Forces, Brig. Gen. Siniša Jurković.

In the Battle at Batina waged in November 1944, which created the conditions to liberate the region of Baranja from the Nazi occupation, some 2000 members of the Russian Red Army and Partisan units lost their lives attempting to cross the Danube.
