Army Commander Lieutenant General Kruljac visited CAF members in Vukovar

Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mladen Kruljac with his associates visited today, Wednesday, 6 October 2010 members of the Croatian Armed Forces who have been working on removing debris and on reconstruction of gravel road in Vukovar, and o met the mayor Zeljko Sabo.

CAF members have been engaged in clearing and partial removal of buildings destroyed during the war, on reconstruction of the gravel road in a distance of three kilometres and in reconstruction of pavement in a length of 2.5 kilometres. These activities have been conducted under the Agreement  of the Ministry of Defence with the City of Vukovar, and also serve as part of engineer training of the Croatian Armed Forces. In accordance with the planned, it is expected that the works on clearance of 46 buildings will last for one month. “CAF will use its engineering capacities up to the maximum, since one of the tasks of the CAF is to help the local community”, Army Commander Lieutenant General Kruljac said. “We are honoured to help Vukovar and its citizens” the general said, noting that the work of the CAF does not require additional costs, because they are incorporated into regular training. With teams that have been working on clearing debris and reconstructing the gravel road, part of CAF members have been engaged in works for the War Memorial Centre in the 204th Brigade Barracks.

Mayor Sabo thanked the members of the Croatian Armed Forces to help. “In order to clear some of the ruins caused by war, we invited the citizens of Vukovar to give us permission to work on their real estates”, the mayor said. All necessary documentation have been provided by the City and the City is committed and will provide fuel and lubricants for the work performed by members of the Croatian Armed Forces. The Mayor expressed his satisfaction with the fact that the works were started at full speed and that the work has been progressing well. Thus the Ministry of Defence fulfilled its promise, and the expectation that the cooperation of City of Vukovar and the Armed Forces will continue next year was expressed as well.
