ASDA 2019 – Panel on future of defence industry

A first panel discussion within the Adriatic Sea Defense & Aerospace Exhibition and Conference, titled “The Croatian defence industry and new technologies“  was held in the Spaladium Arena in Split on Thursday, April 11, 2019, organised by the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Croatia and the Slobodna Dalmacija daily newspaper. 

Alongside the representatives of the  leading Croatian defence manufacturers and of the world’s renowned exhibitors, the ASDA 2019 was attended by  a number of foreign and state and military delegations, representatives of the Croatian Ministry of Defence, of the  Croatian Armed Forces, the TNT Productions, the Croatian Chamber of Commerce ,  military analysts, and others.

Ahead of the panel discussion the Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Damir Krstičević said: “In addition to the high quality of the Croatian defence industry, it is obligatory to initiate synergistic integration of all factors of defence industry development in Croatia. As well as to  raise the awareness on the use and the benefits of new technologies. I welcome today+s panel discussion and I hope that the experiences presented  will help the Croatian defence industry to step into the fourth industrial revolution.The Croatian Armed Forces and the Croatian defence industry stay abreast of new technologies, as evidenced by the establishment of the Unmanned Aerial  Systems Centre and the Cyber Space Command, who work includes the use of high technology.

The Vice President of the Croatian Chamber of Economy Tomislav Radoš said robotics and AI contained risks of cyber attacks. The key to the defence is public and private partnership and international co-operation, an excellent example of which  is seen in the co-operation between the Ministry of Defence, the Croatian Chamber of Economy and the Association of produceers of weapons and military equipment. 

The Director of TNT Production Justin Webb extended appreciation to the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Croatia and the “Slobodna Dalmacija“ daily paper as the organisers of the panel – an event necessary for further growth of  ASDA. 

The new technologies in defence were discussed by the Chief of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces General Mirko Šundov and Marinko Ogorec, who addressed the possibilities of progress and security enhancement as well as the risks and threats implied. 

The panelists (the  DOK ING Sales Director Subeijo Kalo, the Director of HS Produkt Željko Pavlin, the Lockheed Martin’s Vice President Europe Jonathan Hoyle, the Director of Marketing Development of the Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Amihai Dekel and the Executive Director of Šestan-Busch  Goran Basarac) presented the experiences and opinions from their respective domains and the future directions of the niches, and addressed the possibility of networking  various technologies  into integrated systems  as well as the risks inherent in the technologies.
