Brazilian frigate visits Croatian Navy and Dubrovnik

The Federal Republic of Brazil’s Navy frigate “Liberal” on 21 August 2014 sailed into the Port of Gruž, in an official visit to the Croatian Navy and the town of Dubrovnik. The 264-member crew is commanded by Commander Jose Augusto Silva Ferreira.

The F43 frigate was constructed in 1978; its length is 130 m, beam 13,5 m and draught  5.5 m, while the displacement is 3 300 tons  (light), and 3 900 tons (loaded). The maximal speed is 28 knots, and the nautical range is 5300 NM at 17 knots.

„Liberal“ is one of the six frigates of the Niteroi class of the Brazilian Navy, whose combat systems underwent extensive modernisation in 2005 and new missile systems were mounted onto. The Frigates of the class constitute the strongest and the crucial vessels of the Brazilian Navy – the largest Navy in Latin America.
