Brigadier General Miroslav Kovač appointed Commander of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence

The new Commander of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence, Brigadier General Miroslav Kovač took over the duty from General Major Dražen Ščuri at the formal handover ceremony held in the Pukovnik Marko Živković” Barracks at Pleaso on 18 February 2016.

The ceremony was attended by the Defence Minister Josip Buljević, the Cheif of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, General Drago Lovrića,  theInspector General, Lieutenant General  Mirko Šundov ,the commanders of the Services of the Croatian Armed Forces and the members of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence. 

Contratulating the new Commander  on his appointment,  Minister Josip Buljević expressed his confidence that  Brigadier General Kovač would build his expertise and experience into the future development of  the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence  and pledged his support and the support from the Ministry of Defence in that regard. The Minister  emphasised it was a national responsibility to  contribute to the system that would guarantee  the stability and security of the Republic of Croatia.

Minister Buljević forwarded the appreciation from the President as the Supreme Commander of the Croatian Armed Forces and expressed his own to General Ščuri for his overall contribution to the development of the Coatian Air Force and Air Defence under his command.
The Chief of the General Staff emphasised the permanent readiness of the Croatian Armed Forces to respond to any challenge and defend the Croatian air space and territory.

“The Croatian Air Force and Air Defence is operating within NATO structure and is always ready to assist civilian institutions too.  I can proudly state It is a small-sized yet highly efficient service“, said General Lovrić.

Major General Dražen Ščuri stated on the occasion that the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence was a   a respectable service contributing to national safety and expressed appreciation to all colleagues and wished Brig. Gen. Kovač  success  in commanding the service .
Brigadier General Miroslav Kovač expressed his appreciation for the trust vested in him and the honour to command the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence and pledged to do his best in the interest of its effective operation.

Brigadier General Miroslav Kovac was born in 1962 in Zadar. He exercised a series of responsible duties during the Homeland War (combat platoon commander, deputy squadron commander, the chief of staff and the commander of the 93rd Air Base of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence). He was a participant of the Operations “Maslenica”, ” Leap 1″ and “Leap 2”, “Winter 94”, “Summer 95”, “Storm”, “Mistral” and “South Move”.  He is a holder of the Commemorative Medal “Storm”, “Summer of 95” and “Daring Feat”, the Order of the Croatian Trefoil and a series of commendations and awards., Brigadier General Kovač graduated from  the War School  “Ban Josip Jelacic” in 2005 and was promoted to the rank in June  2014. His previous duty was Chief of Staff and Deputy Commander of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence.
