CAF and U.S. SOF joint training

Joint training of members of the CAF Special Operations Battalion (BSD) and U.S. Naval Special Warfare Unit-2 (NSWU-2) in maritime operations and parachute jumps has been conducted from 1 to 10 February 2012 in Lora Naval Base in Split and in “Josip Jovic Barracks” in Udbina.

Part of the exercise was conducted in the waters near Split and in the area around the Zirje Island using boats and Navy personnel, and in parachute jumps training participate members of Army’s Intelligence Battalion.  Training instructors were members of NSWU – 2.

The aim of the training was planning and execution of special operations by BSD members, which included maritime operations and parachute jumps from high-speed aircraft with landing on a small area, as well as implementation of inter-service training for possible future joint operations in the international environment.

The parachute jumps training was conducted with the use of U.S. aircraft “MC-130 Hercules” in the barracks “Josip Jovic” in Udbina, and jumps were performed from a height of 3000 meters. Speed ​​of the aircraft when parachutists were jumping was not descended below 240 km/h, and the focus of the training was on clustering techniques of paratroopers during free fall and landing on a limited fields. Despite the low temperatures, the mid-day average was around zero, while at an altitude of 3000 meters ranged from -25 to -30 ° C, members of the Croatian and U.S. troops have performed hundreds of jumps with no problems.
