CAF members continue with relief efforts

The Croatian Armed Forces continue with the flood relief efforts in Slavonia for the 10th day, with 661 members dispatched to worst hit areas.

The majority (596) of the relief force belongs to the Croatian Army, primarily of the Guards Mechanised Brigade and of the Guards Motorised Brigade respectively; the Training and Doctrine Command has 57 members assisting, the NBC Battalion 44 and the Signal Regiment 5. They have been supported by the members of the Support Command and the Air Force and Air Defence respectively.
A group of 145 soldiers, equipped with 11 vehicles, is assigned with patrolling the embankment between the bridge in Županja and the village of Rajevo Selo:  142 soldiers are stand-by at the village of  Drenovci, having at their disposal 23 motor vehicles and one ambulance vehicle; four decontamination cistern, one water tank, 6 decontamination kits, three amphibious vehicles, nine boats and two tug boats.
Furthermore, 99 soldiers are stand-by at the village of Posavski Podgajci, and 84 more at Soljani; all duly equipped for the relief tasks; 40 soldiers have been stand-by at Vrbanja as well; five soldiers are based at Babina Greda, with one low loader trailer and two tipper lorries, assigned with reconstructing the main road (so far 500 m have been reconstructed so far) .
A crew of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence, flying the H-213 is continuing its mission in Slavonia, and on 24 May they conducted reconnaissance of the flooded areas.

At Rajevo Selo 18 members of the Engineer Battalion of the Training and Doctrine Command have been engaged reconstructing the embankment jointly with the personnel of the Croatian Waters Authority, building in 150 sandbags and reconstructing 20 m of the embankment.
Moreover, 12 members of the NBC Battalion have been assigned with decontamination at Rajevo selo (a police van and 10 policemen were decontaminated in the course of 24 May), where also 11 members of the Air Defence Battalion and a Veterinary Section have been tasked with land rehabilitation, equipped with a motor vehicle and have been recovering and transporting livestock the Gunja-Velebit Decontamination Post, managed by 17 members of the NBC Battalion duly equipped with the decontamination equipment. A bus and 30 volunteers underwent decontamination during the day.

The Support Command deployed 61 members, equipped with one low load trailer, two water tanks, one fuel cistern, 3 ambulance vehicles and three mobile kitchens, stationed at the villages of Otok, Cerna and Gradište, which prepared a total of 1600 meals on 24 May, a half  of which were delivered to Drenovci, Posavski Podgajci and Vrbanja respectively.
Medical care has been provided by two medical teams, based at the Cerna sporthall (the on-duty team) in the Vinkovci Barracks (the stand-by team), and an epidemiology team surveying the food preparing posts.

Since 24 May 2014 16 members of the Military Medical Centre and two members of the Logistic Training and Doctrine Centre, two EOD technicians and two members of the General Logistic Support Battalion have been engaged in relief efforts as land rehabilitation team.

The supplies for the evacuated residents (a total of 32 tons) were transported from Zagreb to Županja by two military lorries.
