CAF Officers at the world championships in wrestling

Nenad won the third place and bronze medal in Greco-Roman style in the 84 kg category, while Neven, in an extremely strong competition, qualified for the eighth position in the 74 kg category.

Result of Lieutenant Nenad Zugaj who, like his brother, is a wrestler of “Lika” Club, and employee of the Centre for Personnel Management, is the biggest achievement since Croatian independence. Therefore, our wrestlers had a magnificent welcome. Apart from family, friends and fellow wrestlers and the city and sports officials, Zugaj brothers were welcomed by colleagues from the Croatian Armed Forces.

Ivica Lovric, head of the Department of Education, Culture and Sport, in a brief statement said that it was “very positive that Nenad is an officer of the Croatian Armed Forces”. Its success came almost simultaneously with the initiative of Ministry of Defence and the Croatian Olympic Committee to recruit top athletes in the Armed Forces, reminded Lovric.

Thanking everyone for a lovely welcome, Lt. Nenad Zugaj could not hide emotions. “I am delighted! They wrote that this medal was a sensation or a miracle, but I am aware of my abilities and capabilities, I know how much I trained and how I was ready”, Zugaj said.

By remembering all who have contributed to his success, Nenad sent a special thanks to his commanders. “Thank you people from the Croatian Armed Forces, thank you my colleagues from work. You are my support as well, it’s nice to come to work with a smile and work with people who are really OK and understand the seriousness of my efforts in sports”, the third wrestler of the world concluded.
