CAF swimming championship
Swimming championship of the Croatian Armed Forces completed today, 1 December 2011, with closing ceremony and giving awards to the best teams and competitors in Bosut Barracks in Vinkovci.
The two-day event was organized by the Guards Armoured Mechanized Brigade (GOMBR) and the Department of Kinesiology of the Personnel Management Centre. 73 competitors from 12 teams, which represented all major CAF units, competed in five disciplines: 50 meter breaststroke, 50 meter freestyle, 50 meter freestyle in a uniform with a rifle, 4×50 meter freestyle in a uniform with a rifle and 4×50 meter freestyle. All five disciplines were held in the 25-meter pool in Vinkovci Lenije indoor swimming pool.
The total sum of points from all disciplines in the end proved the most successful team of the Croatian Military Academy. The winners in each event are Cadet Luke Sapina (Military Academy, 50 meters breaststroke), Lieutenant Vladimir Juric (Navy, 50-meter freestyle) and Corporal Marin Krizanac (GOMBR, 50 meter freestyle in a uniform with a rifle). Navy won in 4×50 meter freestyle in a uniform with a rifle and the Military Academy in 4×50 meter freestyle.
The championship was officially closed by representative of the Chief of General Staff and GOMBR Commander Colonel Sinisa Jurkovic. When congratulating the best, Colonel pointed out that sport was a very important item for psychophysical readiness of CAF members, as well as for their overall combat readiness. It is therefore necessary to insist on a consistent and professional implementation of physical preparations and continue to encourage and develop sporting activities at all levels in the Armed Forces, Brigadier Jurkovic concluded.
