Chief of General Staff at the meeting of the NATO Military Committee in Brussels

Chief of General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Drago Lovric with the delegation attended on 4 and 5 May 2011 the regular session of the NATO Military Committee at the level of chiefs of general staff in Brussels.

During the session, separate meetings of the Military Committee with the chiefs of Georgia, Ukraine and Russia were held. On the meetings it was confirmed the special partnership that these countries have with NATO, where the contribution of individual partners in addressing common security challenges was particularly highlighted.

A separate meeting of the Military Committee and NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen was held as well, where they discussed the most important current issues in operations and the transformation of NATO. They also discussed Operation “Unified Protector”, and the meeting was also attended by non-NATO members contributing to the operation.

A meeting of the Military Committee with non-NATO countries contributing to ISAF was held as well. The meeting was attended by the chiefs of general staff of 50 countries involved in the ISAF operation. The commander of ISAF, General David Petraeus briefed the attendees via video link with the situation on the ground. The Military Committee then discussed the process of transition and training of Afghan forces.

During the discussion on the operation “Ocean Shield”, chief of general staff also touched on issues of combating piracy, stressing that for the success we need comprehensive approach and intensive cooperation with the EU and individual countries involved in the fight against piracy.

On the sidelines of the session, Chief of General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Drago Lovric held a series of individual meetings with chiefs of general staff, with which he held talks on the ongoing operations and issues of bilateral military cooperation.

The CAF delegation was composed of the Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Drago Lovric, Chief of the Planning Directorate Major General Dragutin Repinc and Assistant to the Defence Advisor in the Office of the President Lieutenant Colonel Gordana Garasic.
