Coast Guard naval and air exercise
At the maritime training area in the waters of the central Adriatic, on Wednesday and Thursday, 18 and19 April 2012, training of the naval and air forces of the Coast Guard was conducted.
The exercise includes the live fire shooting conducted by artillery crews of patrol boats from 12.7 mm machine gun (Browning), while the air force conducted search and rescue training.
Training of artillery crews has been regularly conducted throughout the year, especially for the young gunners to get better acquainted with the weapons and with sea conditions, so they could effectively perform given tasks. According to the commander of the Coast Guard Navy Captain Marin Stošić, training has been conducted systematically, according to the method of objectification of combat conditions. This means that the conditions in which the training is carried out is getting progressively more complex and at the end they are identical to the actual conditions of the possible real use of forces at sea.
The shooting at sea was preceded by training on land at the Red Land military training facility, which took place on a stable platform, on the podium, followed by training in sea conditions. The first phase, just held, was a shooting in real conditions, normal visibility, real-sea conditions 1 to 2 and medium speed vessel. Shooting was on distant targets from 1200 to 1400 meters. Two patrol ships OB1 and OB2 were used, but all artillery crews from all ships of the Coast Guard attended the live exercise.
The next phase of training will be conducted at the maximum ship speed and complex meteo conditions, and the most complex will be shooting at night in real weather conditions.
Besides the shooting, search and rescue training at sea was conducted in which air force was engaged, particularly Pilatus aircraft that are in service in the Coast Guard. The training was coordinated by Colonel Antonela Marinov, MI 8 helicopter pilot and officers for use of the air force in the Coast Guard. Although we do not need to emphasize the role of the air component of the Coast Guard, it has still to be reminded that they are the first scouts who go to the uttermost parts of the Coast Guard area of responsibility.
