Coast Guard patrol boat rescued Norwegians

“Solta” (OB-02) Coast Guard patrol boat rescued today, May 11, about 13.55 hours two Norwegian nationals whose boat sank in the area of the Zirje Island in Sibenik Aquatory.

The National Search and Rescue Headquarters in Rijeka (NSTS) reported about 13.00 to the Coast Guard and the Croatian Navy Operational Centre, that they had received distress signal from the “Adriatic” ship, 21 nautical miles (Nm) southwest of the Zirje Island. The same information was forwarded to the “Solta” patrol boat which about 13.35 spotted a life raft and dinghy about 27 Nm southwest of the Zirje Island. Having come to the life raft, they found two persons who had been immediately boarded to the Coast Guard ship. The rescued were in good condition and not injured. Later it was found that they were the Norwegian nationals whose ship sank. They sailed to Vis Island when they noticed that the water was entering into the boat. They immediately left the boat and took refuge in the raft.
“Solta” patrol boat took the Norwegians on board, and is currently sailing towards the Primosten port where they will hand over the Norwegians to the Sibenik Port Authorities. In addition to port authorities, on the event was also reported the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.
